The Hoosier Horse Trials are an annual event taking place in August at the Hoosier Horse Park in Edinburgh, IN.  A horse trial, better known as Eventing, is best described as an equestrian triathlon. The sport originated as a cavalry test and is comprised of three phases:  dressage, cross country and show jumping. The Indiana Eventing Association is part of United States Eventing Association Area 8 and offers traditional eventing competition levels from Starter through Intermediate/Preliminary. The Hoosier Horse Trials are IEA’s second USEA/USEF recognized competition of the year. It is typically held the first weekend of August on any given year.

How HHT Started
The Hoosier Horse Trials were originally started and organized by Dannette Morgan, owner of Dan Hobyn Stables. After 10 years of running the Hoosier Horse Trials, Morgan approached Kate Gress about taking over the event.  The Penny Oaks Horse Trials ran for the first time at Hoosier Horse Park in 1999. The event ran through 2019. In 2020, due to COVID, the IEA Horse Trials (typically run in June) were moved to August and into the slot of the former Penny Oaks HT.  The following year in 2021, the Indiana Eventing Association picked up the reins, secured the dates and reinstated the name to the Hoosier Horse Trials, which kept two recognized horse trials in the state of Indiana.
